Due to different test items, the testing stage and purpose are also different. As a result, there are many different opinions on the two test methods of thermal  shock test and rapid temperature cycling test. The most common is whether the thermal shock test chamber can be used for humidity testing? Why do some customer devices also switch between high and low temperatures instantaneously but can carry humidity?

Based on Lab Companion many years of environmental equipment production experience, thermal shock test chambers must not carry humidity. Here are some information to give you a more intuitive understanding of the differences between thermal shock test chamber and rapid temperature cycling test.

Let's see what will happen if the thermal shock test chamber can be used for humidity measurement.

The thermal shock test chamber quickly cools down to a very low temperature or heats up to a very high temperature within 5 minutes, and performs a cycle test. Ambient humidity generally occurs in the range of 15 to 85 ℃ at normal temperature. Assuming that a thermal shock test chamber is used to measure humidity, ice and frost will form during low-temperature impact. When performing high temperature shocks, the humidity cannot meet the requirements, or there is a situation where it is quickly evaporated. Therefore, regardless of market conditions or national standards, thermal shock test chambers are not equipped with humidity.

It is worth noting that the failure modes of the two samples are also different. Thermal shock is a failure caused by material creep and fatigue damage, also known as brittle failure; The failure of products tested by rapid temperature changes in the rapid temperature change test chamber is mainly caused by material fatigue.

Therefore, Lab Companion reminds customers to pay attention to the differences between the two when selecting test chamber, and determine the required equipment based on the standards implemented.
